I’m Back, and I Sure Did I Miss Y’all!

It’s been a while since I posted. I miss updating the blog terribly and want need to get back to it. Tonight I am taking the time to do it and sharing the top 10 events from the past 30+ days just because I know y’all missed me.

1. Bloggy Bootcamp hits ATL – So. Much. Information. Wow. I will be doing a separate recap later.

2. Baby turned 7! She is definitely no longer a baby, but as my first born she will always carry the nickname. You can read about her awesome birthday cake here or check out her big event of getting her ears pierced here.

3. Birthday Presents! Baby also received a telescope for her birthday. Luckily the weather here in Atlanta is cooperating with clear skies.

4. Halloween is a much celebrated event in my office. Floors compete for a coveted spirit award! It would be shameful not to share my team’s efforts this year – Shark Week! Our group had sharks, a diver, jellyfish (yours truly) and the cutest baby shark ever!

5. Halloween fun extended to home with my friend Des, organizing the cutest costume parade for the kids. Check out her own FAB costume as the Mad Hatter, lading the parade. Amazing!

6. Nanny and Poppy came to visit and bring back Suzy Q. The kids love having a dog for a few days, and Mommy is glad she is only visiting.

7. The Broke Socialite organized another fantastic Fall Sugar Coma Event. The kids and I snacked our way throug h the many tables and thoroughly enjoyed the photo booth and fun props. I totally need someone artistic to make me some of these props. I seriously doubt my craft skillz are up to par.

8. The lovely Kia Morgan Smith, hosted a Thomas the Train Mega Bloks Party. Jed and I made our way on a Saturday afternoon to a super playdate not only fun for the kids, but the moms too. I truly enjoyed meeting more mom bloggers from our GA Social Media group.

9. Thanksgiving – Our family of four stayed put in GA this year. DH and I shared kitchen counters and made our favorite recipes originally made by other family members. A sampling from our yummy menu includes pineapple stuffing glazed carrots, and DH’s loaded mashed potatoes.

10. Wedding bells – DH and I had our first weekend away together sans any littles. DH’s niece was married in the Pocono Mountains and we traveled to PA for 4 days. It wasn’t Sandals, but the crisp weather and beautiful resort made for a nice little escape.

So consider yourself caught up. Now let’s see if I can keep myself on track for the holidays. Luckily I have some vacation days scheduled so work is only on the front burner when necessary. Good thing too, since very little of my Christmas shopping is done yet.

Are you ready for the holidays?

Top Ten Tuesday – An Apple a Day

Top Ten {Tuesday}
As a family of four, there are very few things everyone in the family enjoys to eat. The hardest to satisfy lately is my two year old. Jed is at the stage where he only wants to eat fish sticks, dinosaur chicken nuggets, and cheese sticks.

Lately, Jed has been asking for applesauce with dinner, and he likes fresh apples too. I am always trying to offer other alternatives at meal time to get him to eat at least a few servings of fruits and vegetables per day. After this past weekend’s trip to the apple orchard, I decided to do a top ten list on ways to use apples. Hopefully we can use some of our fresh apples to make one or two ways from the list. YUM!

1. Fresh sliced apples with peanut butter
2. Southern Skillet Fried Apples
3. Mini dessert apple pies

4. Chocolate Caramel Apples
5. Apple Pie
6. Apple Cider
7. Apple Fritters

8. Apple Dumplings
9. Apple cake
10. Fruit Blended Applesauce

OK, so now I want to eat an apple.
Go figure.

What’s your favorite way to eat apples?

Top Ten Tuesday – Fall Flavors

Top Ten {Tuesday}

I immensely dislike the heat, ironic too, that I made a conscious decision to move to the South.  Luckily, I can easily travel from air-conditioned house, to air-conditioned car, to air-conditioned office.  You get the idea.

When the Fall cool weather starts to roll in and the leaves start to change, I happily get out the blankets, sweat shirts and jeans.  Warm sunshine coupled with cooler temps inspire many of my favorite flavors for this time of year.  For this week’s top ten, I am sharing my favorites with you, and hope you will share a few of your own in return.

Top Ten Fall Flavors

    1. Pumpkin Spice Latte – Starbucks you have my whole heart

      1. Beef Stroganoff – fill up my bowl for seconds, please
      2. Chili – heat from the inside out
      3. Chicken Pot Pie – with or without a crust
      4. Pumpkin pie – who’s ready for Thanksgiving? Maybe make a dip this year?

    1. Beef stew – crock pot ease
    2. Maple Syrup – sweet yummy goodness
    3. Pumpkin muffins – I’ll take mine with chocolate chips

    1. Warm apple cider – don’t you want to just dive into the cup?

  1. Apple pie – do you make the crust from scratch?

What are your favorite flavors you start to crave when the weather turns cool?

Top Ten Tuesday – Ways to Make Potatoes

Top Ten {Tuesday}

So I have a little bit of a problem and it’s called Pinterest! Heaven help me!
I am already a self professed Twitaholic, and now I am being sucked into this new plethora of incredible-ness. Yeah, that’s probably not a word, but give the Urban dictionary time.

So for those of you that don’t know, Pinterest is a virtual pin board. Still need more explanation, click here and then minimize the window to go back to later. I say minimize the new window because Pinterest will open and you will be sucked into the vortex of all that is awesome and be looking at fabulous pictures for hours and you will never make it back here to read my top ten post…which is pretty monumental since it’s been a while since I did one.

I love top ten posts and linking up with Amanda on her blog Oh Amanda, but I am awful at coming up with ten things for a list.

5 I can do. Easy.
7 or 8, maybe with some major thought.
10…normally next to impossible until a little light bulb went off in my head.
Why not post about what you know…hellooooo….FOOD!
So here it is…a fun list all about potatoes complete with some recipe links and a Few Pinterest posts too!

Top ten ways to make potatoes!
1. Roasted. Balsamic Roasted Red Potatoes

2. Baked.  Simple enough but very cool when made here in a crockpot.

3. Crash Hot Potatoes (Photo credit, The Pioneer Woman)

4. Hash browns go basic or go wild and add some bacon.

5. Mashed.  Multiple flavors in the Mashed Potatoes with Bacon & Cheddar (Photo credit, Sippity Sup)

6. Cheesy Au Gratin Potatoes always go great with ham.

7. French Fries.  An alternate to deep-fried – Oven Baked Parmesan SeasonedFries

8. Twice baked…seriously…these look amazing don’t they. (Photo credit, The Girl Who ate Everything)

9. Potato salad.  Traditional or something new like Hot German Potato salad like DH made recently. (Photo credit, me, and not nearly Pinterest worthy as all the others.)

10. Potato pancakes

I’m not even a huge fan of potatoes, but after seeing all of these awesome recipes and photos on Pinterest I am definitely in the mood for some!

What’s your favorite way to enjoy potatoes?

Top Ten Tuesday – Things I Would Do With Extra Time

Top Ten {Tuesday}

As a full time WOHM, I find myself constantly wishing for more hours in a day. Usually these hours would be spent on necessary things like laundry or a special project at work.

What if you were given 1-2 extra hours a day?

Without having to reduce the amount of time you got to sleep, which is usually where parents end up finding “extra time”.

Here are ten things that I would do if I was given extra time in a day.

1. Scrapbook – I started my first scrapbook during my first pregnancy. It is a fun and creative outlet. To scrap though, I need at least 2 hours. It takes me at least 30 minutes to get organized when I sit down to do it.

2. Tweet – Yes, I know I am a self proclaimed twitaholic, and I do find time to tweet almost every day. I say let there be no shame in wanting more! Feel free to follow me and support my habit.

3. Facebook – I have so many pictures that still are not uploaded, emails that are unanswered, and people I want to reconnect with by the dozens. Seems every time I do find the time to sign in I find myself looking at everyone else’s pictures that they have uploaded in a timely fashion. Maybe if everyone stops uploading new pics for a week, I can actually get to uploading mine. Probably not, but it’s at least a theory.

4. Wander aimlessly around a furniture store. I really enjoy window shopping just to be out and about. I can usually get DH to agree to shopping at the local outlet mall on a sunny day since the stores are all outside. Furniture store browsing takes an act of congress.

5. Craft time with DD – My daughter enjoys all sorts of crafts just like her Nanny. I have all the supplies on hand thanks to multiple window shopping trips to Hobby Lobby, but rarely have the time to just sit down and create. Having a 2 yr old makes it tough too. He wants to do everything his sister does, and let me tell you…he is NOT ready to be handling a glue stick.

6. Picnics – Something about just calling the meal a picnic makes it more appealing. I know my kids eat all of their sandwich when we are on a picnic (and even some of mine too), yet argue about finishing lunch/dinner at the table.

7. Bake – Baby loves to bake. She even got an Easy Bake Oven this year for Christmas. Do you think that thing has been out of the box yet? Shame on Mommy! I vow it will be out of the box for next week’s Mommy and Me Monday photo! You heard it here!

8. Read – More blogs, books, magazines, etc. Something. Anything. I love to read, but never find the time. I even have a kindle loaded with new and exciting books. It too sits lonley and unopened on the end table.

9. Send cards – I have blank cards to create (see #5) and ready made cards in a file on hand. I would like to take the time and send some of them. Emails will never take the place of a thoughtful handwritten note to someone. Sad to say I actually had time to write in and address a card recently, yet it sits on my desk at work without a stamp.

10. Play – I would not open my laptop. I would not clear the dishes and put leftovers away. I would just play with my kids with any extra time I can get. Before I know it, they will be grown and too old to play trains or dolls. I need to take the time now before it slips away from me. I already feel like time is flying by way too fast.

What would you do with an extra 1-2 hrs a day?

Top Ten Movies I will Always Watch

Top Ten {Tuesday}

There are always movies that repeated on tv a million times. Yet for the movies listed here, I catch myself stopping whatever I am doing, and sitting down to watch. I just have to see the title while clicking around in the DVR guide and the remote extinctively turns.

I get sucked in every stinkin’ time.

1. She’s Having a Baby
This hasn’t been on in ages, and it may just date me to living in the 80’s, but it stars Kevin Bacon as a newlywed trying to find himself while trying for a baby with his wife. The end makes me bawl like a baby. If you have never seen it. Rent it. This weekend. Trust me.

2. Forrest Gump
I saw this one late after all the original hype and after was like, meh. But everytime it’s on I find myself getting sucked back in and watching it again.

3. Indiana Jones (any of the series)
I just love Harrison Ford. Isn’t that enough of a reason to watch?

4. National Treasure
The history details in the movie are great, esp since I grew up so close to Philadelphia. Throw in some action and a little love story it’s a winner to me.

5. Father of the Bride
George Banks and Franc are a riot. Bar none. Plus I love the part when Annie gets a blender from her fiance. I thought about that exact scene as I was opening the new dust buster from my husband on Christmas Day.

6. Fight Club
Yeah, ok this one is a little a lot gross at parts, but it still draws me in just the same. Such craziness that can go on in one’s mind.

7. Dirty Dancing
Nobody puts Baby in a corner.

8. Talladega Nights The Ballad of Ricky Bobby
If you ain’t first, you’re last…’nuff said.

9. The Fifth Element
The supreme being fighting the aliens during the opera. The music score makes it pure awesome. Yes, I admit. It is a little cheesy in the end with all the love is worth saving the world for mushiness, but it still ROCKS!

10. Pirates of the Carribbean (again, any of the series)
Two words. Johnny. Depp.
I have stalked followed Johnny Depp since his 21 Jump Street Days.
Captain Jack Sparrow is just down right fun to watch.

So now it’s your turn. I would love to hear what movie just sucks you in every time, even though you have seen it over and over again?
