Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus – Fully Charged #RBBBATL

Have you ever been to a circus? I remember my last visit. I went with my sister, brother-in-law and 2 nieces when they were 3 and 4 years old. My nieces are now 15 and 16. I feel a little old thinking about my once cherub faced nieces then, and now driving and going to Prom, but last night I sure felt like a kid again. My own family and I were treated to a social media preview night for the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Fully Charged show show at Philips Arena.

Upon arrival we received a warm welcome from Feld Entertainment (complete with bright red clown noses for everyone!), and then were led down to the circus floor for an up close and personal introduction to some of the circus animals and their wonderful trainers. Then we stayed in the floor area for the All Access Power Up Pre-show, which by the way, is open to the public with your ticket purchase. I strongly suggest you take advantage of the opportunity. It was so much fun!

The kids were able to step into the various rings and try on samples of the elaborate costumes and personally interact with the talented performers.

Baby loved having a turn sitting in the trapeze ring that she watched flying high above the ground with a graceful aerialist just minutes before.

After a little more meandering around the floor mingling with the clowns and watching Asia, the elephant paint a few portraits (for real!), we headed to our seats for the start of the show. Not sure why we had a full seat to sit on, since you really only needed the edge.

Our entire family was soon sharing big belly laughs over the antics of the clown team of Stas and Vas.  Their 14 year history of performing together solidifies their chemistry and comedic timing. There were more fun clown antics, like trying to change a giant light bulb, only to be followed by our jaws hitting the floor when the tightrope performers walked, leaped and even biked on the high wire.

The Fernandez brothers were absolutely amazing! Their turbines of terror performance requires such precision and balance. They had me gasping more than once in sheer awe.

Even DH’s eyes got as big as saucers when the tigers came out into the center ring. Holy cow! Those tigers are HUGE! I could have died when the trainer leaned in to one of the big cats for some “kisses”. I totally think the tiger was just checking the seasoning level of the trainer’s face! Egad! The trainer must have nerves of steel to be in a cage repeatedly with 13 massive tigers! When they stand on their hind legs, they tower over him in height. It was utterly amazing to watch their interaction.

Our family had a wonderfully fun night, even though we missed the final act of Brian Miser, the Human Fuse. I heard the crowd went wild seeing him launched from a self-made crossbow at over 65 miles per hour — while on fire! WOW! I sure hope one of my fellow GA Social Media Moms got that on video!

Interested is checking out this awesome show for yourself?

There is still time!

Mommy and Me Monday – Grilled Deliciousness at Chick Fil A

I love days off from work. Some days DH wrangles the kids so I can sleep in a little, and other days I enjoy sipping coffee and reading tweets while listening to the kids make pancakes with Daddy. Today was a little different. Our entire family was loaded in the car and on the road by 8:40 AM. A feat sometimes in itself.

We were heading out early to meet up with my friend, Maria, from Mamamlicious Maria, at the Chick Fil A Vinings. The location was a little bit of a drive for us, but worth it because, Maria was hosting a family-friendly get together to check out the new options for the Chick Fil A kids meals.

The new meals now include the option of grilled chicken nuggets and Buddy Fruits applesauce. The new grilled nuggets were a total hit with Baby…she even ate Jed’s. Jed, however, was more interested in getting back to the slide in the indoor play area. There was plenty of food, fun and giveaways! We even had a visit from an adorable Chick Fil A cow.

The kids had a great time playing while I chatted with some of the great moms and dads from our Georgia Social Media Facebook group. We left after a ton of fun, and a little bribery of Chick Fil A’s hand spun milkshakes. Everything in moderation, you know. :-)

Dude…Stephen King Was At Our Local Walmart!

I am not joking!
See!

Stephen King really was in our local Walmart. The legendary author, of such amazing books as “Misery”, “It” and “The Green Mile”, was in town a few weeks ago for a signing of his new novel, “11/22/63″.

DH was one of hundreds of people to line up outside the store for the chance, to stand in line again later that evening, for an autograph. Mr. King would only be signing copies of “11/22/63″, and the store was limiting autographs to the first 400 people. DH excitedly called me with news he received wrist band number 344, which was shocking to him, because apparently, there were a ton of superfans sleeping in tents outside the store when he arrived!

Againnot joking!

You can see more details here on Stephen King’s FB page here or from Katie VanBrackle’s article here on NorthFulton.com. Ms. VanBrackle also shares some great pictures of the event.

Who would you stand in line for hours to see or get an autograph?

Wordless Wednesday – Ready, Set, Go!

Training wheels are on
How long they stay is unknown
Pray no broken bones

You should know by now…rarely am I actually wordless.

Happy Wednesday!

Bye Bye 2011! Hello 2012!

WOW!
What a year 2011 was!

DH and I made it through another year here in Georgia. We were very blessed to have so many visits from family to keep our spirits high throughout the year. It’s hard being multiple states away from family, so the visits mean the world to us. I believe 2012 will be even more wonderful, filled with family, friends, and of course, FUN!

Wishing the best to you all for a happy and healthy journey into 2012.

I also want to extend a special thank you to Maria over at Flair for sharing a great tutorial for making photo collages. I finally got around to giving it a whirl. You can check out her post here and tell her I said Hi! :-)

I’m Back, and I Sure Did I Miss Y’all!

It’s been a while since I posted. I miss updating the blog terribly and want need to get back to it. Tonight I am taking the time to do it and sharing the top 10 events from the past 30+ days just because I know y’all missed me.

1. Bloggy Bootcamp hits ATL – So. Much. Information. Wow. I will be doing a separate recap later.

2. Baby turned 7! She is definitely no longer a baby, but as my first born she will always carry the nickname. You can read about her awesome birthday cake here or check out her big event of getting her ears pierced here.

3. Birthday Presents! Baby also received a telescope for her birthday. Luckily the weather here in Atlanta is cooperating with clear skies.

4. Halloween is a much celebrated event in my office. Floors compete for a coveted spirit award! It would be shameful not to share my team’s efforts this year – Shark Week! Our group had sharks, a diver, jellyfish (yours truly) and the cutest baby shark ever!

5. Halloween fun extended to home with my friend Des, organizing the cutest costume parade for the kids. Check out her own FAB costume as the Mad Hatter, lading the parade. Amazing!

6. Nanny and Poppy came to visit and bring back Suzy Q. The kids love having a dog for a few days, and Mommy is glad she is only visiting.

7. The Broke Socialite organized another fantastic Fall Sugar Coma Event. The kids and I snacked our way throug h the many tables and thoroughly enjoyed the photo booth and fun props. I totally need someone artistic to make me some of these props. I seriously doubt my craft skillz are up to par.

8. The lovely Kia Morgan Smith, hosted a Thomas the Train Mega Bloks Party. Jed and I made our way on a Saturday afternoon to a super playdate not only fun for the kids, but the moms too. I truly enjoyed meeting more mom bloggers from our GA Social Media group.

9. Thanksgiving – Our family of four stayed put in GA this year. DH and I shared kitchen counters and made our favorite recipes originally made by other family members. A sampling from our yummy menu includes pineapple stuffing glazed carrots, and DH’s loaded mashed potatoes.

10. Wedding bells – DH and I had our first weekend away together sans any littles. DH’s niece was married in the Pocono Mountains and we traveled to PA for 4 days. It wasn’t Sandals, but the crisp weather and beautiful resort made for a nice little escape.

So consider yourself caught up. Now let’s see if I can keep myself on track for the holidays. Luckily I have some vacation days scheduled so work is only on the front burner when necessary. Good thing too, since very little of my Christmas shopping is done yet.

Are you ready for the holidays?

Movember Movember! Face Grown & Hand Brushed

I’ve said before, I love having a blog so I can share all kinds of super special information with friends and family, along with the hundreds occasional picture of my kids. This includes offering up space on my blog when cool friends, like Jessica, have something important to share too.

So in the spirit of a lazy southern afternoon, go get yourself some sweet tea and gather ’round the center island and check out Jessica’s guest post below.

***************************************************

During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces, in the US and around the world. With their Mo’s, these men raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men.

I know what you are thinking…yet another charity, yet another request for a donation. When I first heard of it, I thought “oh great, just another excuse for my boyfriend not to shave…” but the following statistics SHOCKED me.

  •  1 in SIX men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime
  • A man is diagnosed with prostate cancer every 2.2 minutes
  • 1 in 2 men will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime
  • 24% of men are less likely to go the doctor compared to women

So yes, while donations are appreciated, raising awareness is probably the most important part of this campaign.

Let’s face it; men are stubborn and occasionally indifferent towards their health. Prostate cancer funding and knowledge is significantly behind causes such as breast cancer, as studies show that women are more proactive and aware of their health.

With Movember, big steps have been taken towards changing attitudes and habits relating to men’s health around the world. Via the moustache, Movember aims to fulfill its vision of having an everlasting impact on the face of men’s health by continuing to spark conversation and spread awareness of men’s health issues each year.

So spread the word, and if you can, donate some MO-ney for a great cause, because let’s face it, as much as the women in me can sometimes forget it, men help make the world go round. They are fathers, husbands, brothers and sons. Let’s all do our part to keep it that way.
